League History

League History

The league was established in 1990 as a modified fast pitch softball league.  The founders of the league lived in Plainview, New York and wanted to create a competitive softball league that was more like baseball instead of the popular arc ball softball leagues that they had been playing in.  At the time they were in their mid 30’s and wanted to start a softball league with their peers and decided to make it a 35 and over age requirement.  The founders of the league were Jeff Kussoy and Howard Chesloff.  The original format and field availability was limited to only Friday evenings.  Since there were no lights at the local school fields all games had to start at 6 PM.  The schedule was between 16 and 20 games plus playoff and championship games (one game for each).  The first season only had four teams that were primarily made up of local residents.

The league has evolved into an eight team competitive softball league.  The league is drawing strong players / teams from around the metropolitan area as other modified softball leagues have vanished.   We now play a 28 to 30 game regular season schedule where most games are played under the lights Monday through Friday game time is usually 8 PM at town / county softball fields.   Our playoff format is two out of three for the first two rounds of the playoffs and the final / championship is a best of five series.  Our regular starts in early may and goes through the end of September.  As stated the minimum age is 35 but there are even a few players in their 60’s and one pitcher that is turning 75 and going strong.  For myself as I am about to turn 54 this season watching these older veteran players is inspirational.
